Bonjour, Hither Green
In 2021 we took on the building at 232 Hither Green Lane — a cinema back in the 1960s — and filled it with flour, butter and the smell of coffee at six in the morning.
Everything is made here. The bakers start before dawn on the bread and croissants; the chef pâtissiers spend the day on the cakes you see in the counter. In between, the kitchen turns out crêpes, omelettes and eggs on sourdough until the afternoon.
It is a big, light room with a proper blue banquette down one side, tables you can spread a newspaper across, and a pavement terrace for the days that allow it. Everyone is welcome, and nobody is rushed.
Plan your visit
The kitchen works to a timetable. Here is what is being served when — and where we are in the day right now.
From the counter
Keep scrolling and the row moves with you — or drag it across yourself. Prices are for a single portion, eat in or takeaway.

The counter
Twenty-odd cakes on any given day, made a few metres from where you are standing. If you cannot decide, ask — somebody will have an opinion.
However you like it
Big tables, comfortable seats and no hurry. Breakfast lands from 6am, the kitchen runs until 4pm, and the coffee machine keeps going until close.
Bread, viennoiserie, boxes of macarons and pâtisserie packed to travel. Call ahead if you need a lot of it and we will have it ready.
Birthdays, christenings, Tuesdays. From £38 for six to eight servings, with a personalised message included. Three days’ notice, please.
For the coffee drinkers
Plenty of people come here for the cake and stay for the coffee. It is pulled properly, poured with a steady hand, and it does not taste like an afterthought to the pastry.
Our baristas dial the grind in each morning and taste the first shots before the doors open, because a bag of beans behaves differently on a damp Tuesday than it did on a dry Friday. Milk is textured to order rather than kept waiting in a jug — which is why the fern on top of your flat white is drawn rather than dolloped.
Oat, soya and almond milk at no extra charge:
Not a coffee drinker? There is matcha, a proper chai latte, a serious hot chocolate, and a tea list that goes well beyond builder’s.
What our neighbours say
Twice named Best Café at the Mayor of Lewisham Business Awards. For everything else, our customers’ reviews are on Google — unedited, and written by the people who left them.
In the kitchen
Bakers in from the small hours on the bread and viennoiserie. Pâtissiers through the day on the cakes. Nothing arrives frozen in a van.
Recognised locally
2022 and again in 2025, voted for by the people who live here.
We are not a chain and we do not want to be. Le Délice was started in 2013 by Karine Bengueloul in a former pub in Ladywell, and Hither Green followed in 2021. Both shops are run the same way: bake it here, serve it warm, know your regulars’ names.
Follow along
Today’s bake, tomorrow’s cake, and the occasional finished plate.
